Red Rock Street Fest offers live music, art sales: Street fest ends arts festival on Saturday October 9 | Go out and go

The Red Rock Street Fest will return this year on Saturday, October 9 with a block party featuring live music, art vendors, food trucks, a kids tent, crafts and a cafe. outside. Street Fest will run from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. outside of the Moab Arts and Recreation Center.

The street festival will close the Red Rock Arts Festival, a week-long art celebration hosted by MARC that includes an outdoor workshop with Carl Purcell. [See “Red Rock Arts Festival offers workshops, street fair,” Sept. 23 edition. -ed.]

The artistic programming doesn’t stop until Street Fest: Street Fest vendors include local artists who will demo and sell their art. Vendors in the past have also included the 98 Center restaurant and the local craft store Moab Made.

“The street festival is so much fun,” said Liz Holland, CEO of MARC. “After a crazy and hectic week, this really climaxes and gives you that sense of pride.”

Plus, this year the lineup of musicians is stronger, Holland said. She reorganized part of the funding for the Festival des arts to allow for a higher musical budget. Five groups will play throughout the day.

Our Time in Space, an alt-rock trio, will perform from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The Waldron Brothers, a rock duo who are really brothers, will play from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Side B ”, in 2018, and are best known for the single“ Electric Love ”, released in 2019. Our Time in Space and The Waldron Brothers are both from Salt Lake City.

After The Waldron Brothers, it is the pop-rock fusion duo Tim + Richard, which will play from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm The musicians of Colorado play the guitar and the box, a percussion instrument.

Winter Grain, a folk-pop group, will perform from 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. They’ve already recorded songs with Ryan Hadlock, who you know from bands The Lumineers and Vance Joy, and are best known for their single, “Fists,” released in 2021.

Jacob Westfall, a folk musician who understands rock elements, will close the lineup from 5.30pm to 7.00pm. He appeared on The Voice (season 12) and American Idol (season 1), and this year released his EP, “Wonderful”. He is best known for his single “Burn Me Down”, released in 2020.

Being a rural location, Moab can feel isolated from cultural centers, said Melisa Morgan, artistic assistant at MARC. This year, MARC has focused on creating “accessible opportunities for people to experience artistic programming that they might not otherwise have access to,” Morgan said.

In addition to the outdoor workshop hosted by Purcell, the arts festival also offers a natural dye workshop and a figure drawing workshop. These two workshops are run by local artists and are offered by donation, but they are free for those who cannot afford it.

The MARC wanted to diversify the artistic programming of the festival this year by offering workshops, a poetry reading, a film screening, a community mosaic evening and, of course, a stronger lineup of musicians at Street Fest.

Street Fest is free and will take place from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the East 100 North building, outside of MARC, on Saturday, October 9.
